Artathon 1 of 47: The Navigator
Inspired by the five Olympic rings the Ipswich Artathon maps five vaguely circular routes around the town’s forty-seven public sculptures and art works. Offically launched on ‘National 2012 Day’ last year the walks have been designed to encourage Ipswichians (and visitors) to higher levels of fitness ahead of the London 2012 Games. Over the coming months I’ll be walking around them myself (although those on the outer fringes of town will be visited by car) and presenting them here for your perusal. First up is ‘The Navigator’ a steel sculpture by John Atkins with an eye towards the town’s maritime and industrial past.
