Ardea cinerea

Grey Heron

I’ve seen this grey heron many times before but he’s always made off before I’ve had a chance to rummage around in my rucksack and retrieve the camera. Today he was quite happy sitting at edge of the Chantry Park duck pond while I snapped away disinclined to flee my presence or that of a seagull that repeatedly swooped down on him like a Stuka on a strafing run. While the heron normally eats small fish and amphibians it does occasionally like to feast on something a bit bigger which is why the seagull may possibly have taken exception to his presence.
