Gippeswyk Hall

Listed Buildings in Ipswich: No 15 Gippeswyk Hall

Gippeswyk Hall

In the 7th century the town of Ipswich was known as Gippeswyk and it is from this that Gippeswyk Park, and the hall that overlooks it, get their names. According to the highly informative, and usually very accurate, The Buildings of England: Suffolk by Nikolaus Pevsner, the 17th century hallwas demolished before the revised 1974 edition went to press. I can however assure the publishers that this is very much NOT the case.

The Ipswich based Red Rose Chain Film & Theatre Company made the hall their home in May of last year and, with the aid of Heritage Lottery Fund monies, plan a “modern but sympathetic renovation” of the Grade II listed building.
