12-01-2011: Ipswich Town 1 Arsenal 0 (Carling Cup Semi-Final 1st Leg)
Portman Road, Ipswich, Suffolk
Blimey, didn’t see that one coming.
Just confirms what many Town fans I spoken to over the past months have been saying. Roy Keane had built a decent squad of players during his twenty months at Portman Road but just had no idea how to mould them into a team. Tonight they really applied themselves, and played constructive, attractive football. If they can continue to do this we must surely pull clear of the relegation zone.
Let’s hope new incumbent Paul Jewell can build on what was achieved tonight. It would be great to get to Wembley again – it’s a really big ask to go to Emirates and get a result – but what is more important is that effort, pride and direction look to have returned to the team.
Caretaker Ian McParland may not be an ITFC employee come tomorrow but he got everything spot on tonight with tactics and team selection and had really motivated the players. He obviously knows his stuff. Good luck to you him were ever he ends up.
