Ipswich Wanderers 1 Cambridge University Press 1

11-12-2010: Ipswich Wanderers 1 Cambridge University Press 1
(Ridgeons League Division One)
SEH Sports Ground, Ipswich, Suffolk

When Ipswich Town exited from administration during the 2002-03 season the CVA left a good number of local businesses somewhat short changed. Florists, plumbers, electricians and the St John’s Ambulance brigade, and many others, were all left out of pocket. As were Gemini Travel a coach company that ferried the ITFC academy sides around (and still do). So it was good to hear that owner Ed Nicholls received indirect compensation for his losses earlier this decade when ITFC agreed to relay the pitch at Ipswich Wanderers, where Ed is now Chairman, over the summer.

Ipswich Wanderers SEH Sports Ground is just a hop skip and jump away from the ITFC training center and Wanderers have agreed to ITFC using it, as an alternative to Portman Road, for some youth and reserve games. The Portman Road playing surface has been suffering as a result of too many games (and a Pink! Concert during the summer) and use of the Wanderers pitch would help ease this.

This of course has required that Wanderers pitch be brought up to spec and that is exactly what award winning ITFC groundsman Alan Ferguson and his staff did during the summer months. The goals posts that had been used at Portman Road for the last few years were also thrown in for good measure.

Four months into the season and the new pitch still looks immaculate…

  1. My goodness. As my day job involves working for one of CUP’s main rivals, I couldn’t possibly be tempted to ever go and watch THEM play!
